Did you know?

Learning a little bit about British culture!
  • Each year, Highland Games are held in Scotland, with events such as putting the stone and tossing the caber
  • Although the kilt is associated with Scotland, there is also the Irish and the Welsh kilt
  • Fancy Scottish food? Haggis, neeps and tatties? Haggis is sheep meat minced with onion and oatmeal and then boiled. "Neeps" are turnips and "tatties" means potatoes
  • London is one of the three major financial centers in the world
  • Cars drive on the left of the road in the UK because hundreds of years ago, horsemen rode on the left so they would have their right arm free to fight if they were attacked by outlaws
  • Many sports were invented in the UK, including football, cricket, tennis and golf
  • Henry VIII executes two of his wives, divorced two more, one died in childbirth, and the sixth, Catherine Parr, outlived him
  • The oficial taxis in London are known as "Black Cabs".
